In a landmark development, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has virtually flagged off Karnataka’s first-ever export consignment of fresh Jamun fruit (Kundana variety) to the United Kingdom. The shipment was sourced directly from a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), enabling farmers to earn nearly double the domestic market rate—₹110 per kg compared to the usual ₹50–60 per kg.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, along with officials from the Department of Horticulture, Mango Board, and the Regional Plant Quarantine Station, commended M/s. Anantha Organic Products Pvt. Ltd. for sourcing fresh jamun directly from Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), ensuring that farmers receive direct and fair benefits. He reaffirmed APEDA’s commitment to promoting India’s indigenous fruits on the global stage and expanding export avenues for traditional agricultural produce.

The jamun fruits were processed at a state-of-the-art packhouse approved by APEDA and the Plant Quarantine Department, set up by the Karnataka Department of Horticulture. This milestone marks the first-ever export of whole jamun fruit from India—until now, international shipments had been limited to processed products or jamun seed powder.

Karnataka, one of India’s primary jamun-producing states, is poised to become a key hub for fresh fruit exports—underscoring the broader potential of Indian horticulture in international markets. APEDA continues to bolster these efforts through capacity-building, product promotion, participation in trade fairs, and global outreach initiatives, particularly under programs like Geographical Indications (GI) and One District One Product (ODOP).
